In the street they march.
In the palace they parley.
Someone must hold their souls.
Someone must guard their hearts.
In the sky the birds fly and praise,
above the pillars of the earth.
Light the candle.
Hold the space.
Keep the silence.
Hear the prayers.
Justice will come by invitation,
Peace by unexpected arrival.
The saviors of the world die daily;
the saints unrecognized,
their prayers an undrying stream.
You hold it in your hands.
Light the candle.
Hold the space.
Keep the silence.
Hear the prayers.
There are prayers too precious
for God alone to hold:
they are entrusted to us,
especially the children.
In the circle they sing
a simple song.
Light the candle.
Hold the space.
Keep the silence.
Hear the prayers.
