Advent Wreath Prayers

$0.00 or more

A series of four prayers for lighting Advent wreath candles that reflect themes of each week’s Lectionary readings.
Week 1
We praise you, O God, for this circle of light
that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent.
As we light the first candle on this wreath,
rouse us from sleep, that we may be ready to greet the Beloved
who comes, in whose hands is our healing.
Enlighten us with your grace,
and prepare our hearts to welcome Christ with joy.
Kindle within us the gift of hope through Christ the Beloved,
whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen.

Week 2
We praise you, O God, for this wheel of time
that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent.
As we light the candles on this wreath,
open our hearts to your will,
that with changed lives we may welcome you with joy.
Enlighten us with your grace,
and prepare our hearts to receive a new Creation in the Spirit of Christ.
Kindle within us the gift of wonder through Christ the Beloved,
whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen.

Week 3
We praise you, O God, for this evergreen crown
that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent.
As we light the candles on this wreath,
open our eyes to the signs of your coming;
may our souls praise the great things you have done.
Enlighten us with your grace,
and prepare our hearts to join in your healing of the world.
Kindle within us the gift of faith through Christ the Beloved,
whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen.

Week 4
We praise you, O God, for this victory wreath
that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent.
As we light the candles on this wreath,
we welcome the promise of your coming,
that we also may be faithful in love.
Enlighten us with your grace,
and prepare our hearts to give birth to Christ by your Spirit.
Kindle within us the gift of love through Christ the Beloved,
whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen.
