Advent Wreath Prayers

$0.00 or more

A series of four prayers for lighting Advent wreath candles that reflect themes of each week’s Lectionary readings.

Week 1
We praise you, O God, for this evergreen crown
that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent.
As we light the first candle on the wreath,
rouse us from sleep, that we may be ready to greet our Beloved
when he comes with our healing in his hands.
Enlighten us with your grace, that we may live in peace
as signs of your advent among us.
Kindle within us the gift of hope through Christ our Beloved,
whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen.

Week 2
We praise you, O God, for this wheel of time
that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent.
As we light the candles on this wreath,
open our hearts to your will,
that we may welcome with faith
the way in the wilderness you are preparing.
Enlighten us with your grace, that we may repent,
and receive your Spirit, ready yo welcome Christ.
Kindle within us the gift of faith through Christ our Beloved,
whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen.

week 3
We praise you, O God, for this circle of light
that marks our days of preparation for Christ¹s advent.
As we light the candles on this wreath,
open our eyes to see your presence in the lowly ones of this earth.
Enlighten us with your grace,
and light our hearts with your fire, that we may do justice in your name.
Kindle within us the gift of joy,
that we may prepare a world worthy of Christ, our Beloved,
whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen.

Week 4
We praise you, O God, for this victory wreath
that marks our days of preparation for Christ’s advent.
As we light the candles on this wreath may we hear
of your love conceived within us,
and offer our lives in your service.
Enlighten us with your humility,
that we may make ourselves available to your grace.
Kindle within us the gift of love,
that we may bear your love into the world
through Christ, our Beloved,
whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen.
