Dearly Beloved,
Grace and Peace to you.
When the bomb goes off
and people flee in terror
seeking safety and shelter
there are those who run
against the crowd, toward
the trauma, the screams,
with healing in their hands,
with peace and presence,
like Jesus, heading for
the lepers, the tortured,
the cross, mindful not of
self but the whole of us,
and like his followers,
attentive to this world
and those about us,
going always unafraid
toward the pain,
calmly entering
the gaping hole.
